Convicted of Slavery

A while back, I did a post on a couple who were facing charges for slavery.  Turns out they just got convicted.  Mahender Murlidhar Sabhnani and his wife, Varsha Mahendar Sabhnani were each convicted of charges including forced labor, conspiracy, involuntary servitude, and harboring aliens.  The poor women they held captive were subjected to physical and psycholical abuse and made to work more than 18 hours per day.  The couple could face up to 40 years in prison, but attorneys, of course, are predicting much less.

In case you were thinking that the women were banking some dough while being abused and victimized by a millionaire couple, you’re wrong.  They were paid $100 to $150 per month, all of which was set to relatives in their home countries.
